Why should you attend the Writing Show? Because we have amazing panelists who  ignite that creative spark.

On February 27, 2014, James River Writers partnered with the Richmond International Film Festival to host the Writing Show, “Behind the Screen: Storytelling through Filmmaking.” Julie Geen moderated a panel of noted screenplay writers and directors from L.A. and Singapore. Each panelist talked about their journey, process, and passion. They held the audience in the palm of their hand.

Some of the memorable quotes were:

I definitely hear characters in my head…Any writer does, when it comes to their characters, I think they definitely hear them speaking in their head. — Richmond native Tamika Lamison, award-winning writer, director and producer.

…writing often is an addiction. … if you are going to write something successful, you have to be intimately and passionately attached to the idea. — Ron Judkins, writer/director of Finding Neighbors and The Hi-Line, Academy award-winning sound designer

There has to be something there that is visually striking, visually interesting…. If you …don’t leave enough room for visually imaginative things to happen, then that is a failure for animation. — Hannes Rall, animator, The Cold Heart, and Assistant Professor at the School of Art, Design and Media (ADM) at Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Singapore

Your creative soul has no limits, despite what you might be going through. — Stacy Goldberg, mother of Rina Goldberg.

Love life, Dream big, Be positive. — Rina Goldberg, Jr. Producer of The Magic Bracelet.

The biggest takeaway of the night was to be passionate about what you write and create. It is your passion that will fulfill you and take you to your destination.

Join us at 6:30 p.m. on March 27th at the Camel for what promises to be another memorable evening. Featured guests Philippa Ballantine and Tee Morris, dynamic husband-and-wife duo, will discuss “The Hybrid Author: Combining Traditional and Self-publishing,” and Bill Blume will moderate.
