COVID Guidelines

James River Writers is committed to the health and safety of our community and we will continue to update our COVID-19 safety policies to reflect the guidelines set by the Virginia Health Department and the CDC.

To  keep everyone in our community safe, we  require  that  all  JRW staff, instructors, and guests  follow  the protocols listed below while attending in-person programs.

  • We are currently following CDC guidelines for community levels, requiring masking by anyone in our facility if our community reaches a “HIGH” level. Masking is optional at “LOW” and “MEDIUM” levels. If and when community levels reach “HIGH” we will alert any in-person program participants of the requirement to wear masks. Community levels are easily found by using the COVID-19 Community Check widget at the top of this page.
  • Follow current guidelines pertaining to COVID-19 exposure and what to do if you test positive. JRW follows CDC guidelines. Read about what to do if you were exposed to COVID-19 here or if you are sick, caring for someone who is sick, or have tested positive here
  •  If we see that you are experiencing symptoms of COVID-19, you may be asked to leave any in person programs in order to protect the health and safety of all JRW staff, instructors, and guests.
  • As of January 1, 2023, we are no longer requiring proof of vaccination by staff, instructors, or guests attending in-person programs.

If you do not follow our COVID safety policies, you will be asked to leave in-person programs and may not be allowed back for future classes or programs. In this case, you may not be eligible for refunds for fees already paid.
