2023 NOVEMBER ONLINE WRITING SHOW | Time as a Story Element

In writing, time can create or postpone urgency, define your setting, and impact your characters’ actions—regardless of genre. Let’s talk flashbacks, time leaps, time-travel, using historical events, and making/breaking the space-time continuum. Our panel will provide guidance on managing chronology, establishing anchoring points, and utilizing time to enhance and propel your narratives.

SPEAKERS
Denny S. Bryce is a best-selling, award-winning author of historical fiction. A former dancer and public relations professional, Denny is an adjunct professor in the MFA program at Drexel University, a book critic for NPR, and a freelance writer whose work has appeared in USA Today and Harper’s Bazaar. She is also a member of the Historical Novel Society, Women’s Fiction Writers Association, and Tall Poppy Writers. Originally from Ohio, she likes to call Chicago her hometown but currently resides in Savannah, Georgia.

Mike Chen is the New York Times bestselling author of Star Wars: Brotherhood, Here And Now And Then, and the upcoming A Quantum Love Story. He lives in the San Francisco Bay Area and thinks dogs are the very best.
Kosoko Jackson is a USA Today Bestselling author of The Forest Demands Its Due and a Lambda Award-winning author for his queer rom-com I’m (So) Not Over You. He writes science fiction, dark fantasy, horror, and contemporary romances that center queer Black characters in a variety of lights. He lives in the New York Metro area with his Golden Retriever, Artemis.
MODERATOR

Karen A. Chase is an author, speaker, and brand designer. Her latest book, Brand the Author (Not the Book) is a branding/marketing workbook for authors. Her first novel, Carrying Independence, is historical fiction about the signing of the Declaration of Independence. It was a nominee for the 2020 Library of Virginia Literary Awards, and was awarded #12 of the 100 Best Indie Books of 2019. She also published Bonjour 40: A Paris Travel Log, and a short food-themed story (with recipes), Mary Angela’s Kitchen. Originally from Canada, Karen is now chasing histories from Richmond, VA.
