In this two-hour master class, we’ll discuss the life of the short story—how to take your drafts to the next level; the process of submitting to literary journals; what lit magazine editors are looking for; and how to use your published story to help propel your writing career. Virginia will share an insider’s perspective as a fellow short story writer with her own collection, Shelf Life of Happiness, and as fiction editor at Pangyrus, a literary journal.

YOUR MASTER CLASS INSTRUCTOR

VIRGINIA PYE‘s forthcoming novel, Marriage and Other Monuments, is set in Richmond in the summer of 2020. She is also author of the historical novels The Literary Undoing of Victoria SwannDreams of the Red Phoenix, and River of Dust, and the story collection, Shelf Life of Happiness. Her essays have appeared in The New York TimesLiterary HubPublisher’s WeeklyWriter’s Digest, and elsewhere. She is fiction editor at the literary journal Pangyrus.
