JANUARY 31 IN-PERSON WRITING SHOW at the Visual Arts Center of Richmond | Putting in the Work: Taking Your Writing to the Next Level

JRW IS PLEASED TO HOST THIS WRITING SHOW IN-PERSON AT THE VISUAL ARTS CENTER OF RICHMOND

Authors in different stages of their writing lives will share the steps they’ve taken along the way and how they’ve moved past roadblocks and setbacks, both internal and external. This panel will help you define success for yourself and give you tips to keep you moving forward.

Location: IN-PERSON! Visual Arts Center of Richmond | 1812 W. Main Street

Cost: $12 Members | $17 Non-members | $5 Students

Registration is required and closes at midnight on January 30, or when capacity is reached. We will not be taking walk-ins at the door.

The Writing Show includes a social time from 6:00 pm – 6:30 pm. Snacks and soft drinks will be provided during this time. This portion of the evening is optional. If you choose to only attend the panel discussion, please arrive by 6:20 pm to allow time to find your seat before the program begins.

Free parking is available in a lot behind the Visual Arts Center. Follow the alleyway to the back of the building. You may then enter the building through the back entrance. Our program will be hosted on the second floor at the top of the stairs.

SPEAKERS

STACY HAWKINS ADAMS

Stacy Hawkins Adams is an author and inspirational writer whose body of work infuses readers with confidence in their own stories. She has penned nine women’s fiction novels and two nonfiction books. Her novel Watercolored Pearls has been a featured title in college coursework​;​ Lead Me Home was ​a Target stores “​Recommended Read”​ and ​The Someday List was an Essence magazine bestseller. Stacy is at work on a new novel and regularly mentors aspiring authors through an online community she leads called Focused Writers.

CATHERINE BAAB-MUGUIRA

Catherine Baab-Muguira is a writer and journalist who’s contributed to the Wall Street Journal, Lit Hub, Slate, CNBC and NBC News, among others. Her first book, Poe for Your Problems: Uncommon Advice from History’s Least Likely Self-Help Guru, was published by Hachette in 2021. In 2022, it was a finalist for the Library of Virginia’s People’s Choice Award, and it won the International Poe Festival’s Saturday “Visiter” Award. Catherine lives in Richmond with her family.

SJ SINDU

SJ Sindu is a Tamil diaspora author of two literary novels (Marriage of a Thousand Lies, which won the Publishing Triangle Edmund White Award; and Blue-Skinned Gods, which was an Indie Next Pick and a finalist for the Lambda Literary Award), two hybrid chapbooks (I Once Met You But You Were Dead, and Dominant Genes), two forthcoming graphic novels (Shakti, and Tall Water), and one forthcoming collection of short stories (The Goth House Experiment). Sindu holds a PhD in English and Creative Writing from Florida State University and teaches at Virginia Commonwealth University and Vermont College of Fine Arts.

MODERATOR

J.T. GLOVER has short fiction in Best New Horror, Pseudopod, and Nightscript, among other venues. He’s published nonfiction in Postscripts to DarknessThe Silent Garden, and Thinking Horror. By day he’s an academic librarian specializing in the humanities, and he lives in Central Virginia.
