The Writing Show has moved online!
No matter how much we’d like to separate the art from the artist, all works are infused by their creators’ points of view. Our panelists discuss how every writer’s voice, lived experience, and place in the world affects creative output for better or worse. Learn how writers can lean into their own perspective and use it to their advantage.

Speakers
Rosa Castellano
Rosa Castellano has taught numerous poetry workshops and classes. She has an MFA in poetry from VCU and her work can be found online at the South Hampton Review. Currently, she is the Emerging Artist Resident in Writing at the Visual Arts Center of Virginia.
Robert Dortch
Robert Dortch is a poetic prophetic voice and emerging photographer who’s committed to sharing images and stories of hope, love, beauty and inspiration from a black man\’s perspective. Robert is Malcolm and Solomon\’s father. His career as an executive leader spans more than 25 years in the for profit, faith based, philanthropic and non-profit sector. Also, he’s a speaker and facilitator, who engages audiences on how to dream big and take action. (@RLDortchJr)
Sarah Marsh
Sarah Glenn Marsh is the author of YA novels including the Reign of the Fallen series and picture books Ninita’s Big World, Alice Across America, and many more. She lives in Virginia with her husband and their zoo of four rescued sighthounds, two birds, and many fish. When she’s not writing, she’s in the pottery studio, volunteering with greyhound rescue, and raising awareness about Type 1 diabetes. (@SG_Marsh)

Phil Hilliker
Phillip Hilliker has been a freelance illustrator for eighteen years. While the bulk of his output has been in the role-playing game industry, his focus for the past few years has been shifting toward writing for kids, including middle-grade novels and picture books. He is also the membership coordinator for James River Writers, and teaches at both Visual Arts Center of Richmond and Richmond Young Writers.
