JANUARY 2021 ONLINE WRITING SHOW – Pivot! Staying Relevant in Changing Times

From virtual book launches to Zoom in our living rooms, the ways our writing community functions and connects have changed dramatically over the past year. Some things (like virtual Writing Shows) work great online, and some things . . . don’t. When you want to keep writing and reaching readers, how do you decide what still works, what’s worth trying, and what you should throw away? Our panelists will help you find your footing for the new year.

Amber McBride

Amber McBride is an English professor at the University of Virginia and holds an MFA in poetry from Emerson College. Her poetry has been published or is forth-coming in several literary magazines including Ploughshares, The Cincinnati Review and The Rumpus. She lives in Charlottesville, Virginia with her dog, Shiloh and her debut novel-in-verse, Me (Moth) comes out in August 2021 with Macmillian.

Amanda Nelson

Amanda Nelson is the Executive Director of Demand Generation at Book Riot, and the co-host of the Get Booked podcast. She has discussed books on CNN, NPR, and many, many couches.

Mary Helen Sheriff

Mary Helen Sheriff is the author of southern women’s fiction, Boop and Eve’s Road Trip, and a founder of Bookish Road Trip. After 14 years in classrooms teaching elementary school, middle school, college, and professionals, Mary has taken a break from the classroom to focus on writing. She has an MFA from Hollins University, an MA from ODU, and a BA from UVA. She lives in Henrico County with her two children, two cats, and one husband.

Melissa Scott Sinclair

Melissa Scott Sinclair is a fiction writer and award-winning journalist. Her recent work has appeared in Richmond magazine, Parhelion and the anthology Life In 10 Minutes. Her short story “Everything Must Go,” a ghost story set in the decaying corporate headquarters of Circuit City, was published in the anthology Richmond Macabre.
