DESCRIPTION:Join agent Christopher Rhodes of The Stuart Agency for this hands-on class that will demystify the agent/author relationship. Rhodes will walk you through the exciting and stressful journey from query letter to book sale\, including examples of good and bad query letters\, what to expect from the revision process\, and what really goes into the book sale. With four hours of instruction time\, there will be plenty of opportunity for questions and a chance for you to get feedback on your own query letter. \nDate: Wednesday\, February 24 \nTime: 10:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. (with one hour for lunch) \nLocation: Visual Arts Center of Richmond\, located at 1812 West Main Street \nParking: On street parking is available\, and there is also a lot behind the building. \nCost: $100 for members; $140 for non-members \nClass size is limited to 15 so that attendees have plenty of opportunity for one-on-one feedback\, including getting a critique of a query letter. \n \n\n \nSpeaker\n \nChristopher Rhodes is a literary agent with The Stuart Agency in NYC. Prior to joining The Stuart Agency\, Christopher was an agent at The James Fitzgerald Agency and before that\, he worked at The Carol Mann Agency and in the sales and marketing departments at Simon and Schuster. Specializing in literary fiction and nonfiction\, Christopher’s clients include novelists Taylor Brown\, W.B. Belcher\, and Philip Gerard; essayists Gwendolyn Knapp\, Greg Marshall\, and Steven Barker; and Flannery O’Conner Award winning writer Peter Selgin. Christopher is actively seeking queries in the following areas: literary and up-market fiction (including thriller and horror); connected stories/essays (humorous and serious); memoir; creative/narrative nonfiction; history; religion; pop culture; and art & design. \nJames River Writers would like to thank the Visual Arts Center
